Kings Cross Bridge

London

The Brief

J Murphy & Sons were contracted to deliver phase one of this inner city project. Phase One would consist of a six levelled structure from basement to roof, upon completion it house UK Real Estate Ltd.

The building would create 1,700 m² of mixed space whilst also involving the rebuilding of the basement level for the London Underground. We were appointed to provide the structural package for this project.

Our Approach

  • The Location of this site lies directly above two rail tunnels. The basement slab for the project is the tunnel soffit of the Metropolitan Line-London Underground and the Moorgate Line-Network Rail.
  • The steelwork for the Kings Cross Bridge was designed to be lightweight so the imposed load on the foundations below, would not impact the infrastructure below. As well as this the frame was designed to use part of the existing frame.
  • Due to the nature of the active rail-lines below, anti-vibration bearings were utilised in the structure and foundations during the project to ensure disruption was kept to a minimum.
  • The site location is surrounded by one of the busiest cross-sections in the capital. We would co-ordinate multiple 20 tonne trailers to be delivered to site. We spliced 16M long columns to improve handling and logistics.
