Candidate Experience

Here at Elland Steel, we recruit for a variety of roles – from production and design to sales and project management.  Regardless of role, our recruitment typically involves an online or telephone interview, completing role specific cognitive tests, followed by a face to face interview.

However, depending on the nature of the roles, their may be additional steps to the selection process that you may need to complete.

In order to be transparent and so you are clear what to expect during our selection process, below highlights some of the key stages of our process.

We will often complete an initial screening interview which will either be online or via the phone.  This is for us to find out a bit more about you and your experience and whether you would be a good fit for the role we are recruiting for.

This will typically last 30 minutes and there will also be the opportunity to ask us any questions about the role you’ve applied for and working at Elland Steel.

This will be a structured interview with set competency based questions designed to assess your skills, experiences, behaviours and overall suitability for the role you have applied for.  There will either be 1 or 2 interviewers.

Again you will have the opportunity to ask questions about the role and any questions you may have about working for Elland Steel.  Where possible, we’ll also try and give you a quick tour of the site so you can see where you’ll be working if you are successful.

At some point during the selection process, you may be asked to complete an online test. This may be a specific cognitive test (such as numerical/verbal reasoning, memory, spatial ability, data checking); or a more general IQ test. These help us assess whether you meet the requirements for the job or job level. In most cases tests will be taken online at Elland Steel.

If you have a disability and need us to make any reasonable adjustments for you to complete the tests, please let the hiring manager know as soon as possible. Reasonable adjustment may include additional time to complete any timed tests; support in reading out the questions to any tests; changing the font type , font size, screen size or background to make it easier to read; completing a paper based test an alternative to online; identifying the best time of day for you to complete the tests etc.
